Constellations

I’m currently writing a series of constellations: collected resources, research and observations about care. Below are the themes and topics I am planning to cover. As I complete a constellation, I’ll link it to the list below. Every month I share an update on my work/writing process in my newsletter, and along the way, fun little tidbits on what I’ve been learning.

Having a child

Making the decision to have a child is not easy for everyone and even those who are sure they want to have a child often wish there was a better way to preview what it entails. I read a lot over a five-year fertility journey and at the same time, needed to find a way to navigate way too much information about pregnancy and birth. Here’s where I landed.

  • choice
  • fertility
  • pregnancy & birth
  • postpartum
  • breastfeeding
  • fur babies

Caring for a child

Learning how to take care of a child requires revisiting a lot of building blocks of human health. It feels like learning what I should have known all along for the first time. Here are my notes.

  • sleep
  • feeding
  • care teams
  • parenting
  • the sandwich generation
  • creativity & motherhood

Revisiting our foundations

Because the process of becoming a parent was so slow, I began to question a lot of my foundations. Re-examining the social structures I take for granted offered me the opportunity to apply intention to them ahead of parenthood. It’s an ongoing process and one that I often wish I had the language to discuss more easily with friends. Here is me trying.

  • home
  • family
  • selfhood
  • marriage
  • community
  • work vs. care
  • writing

Engaging with the world

My background is in journalism, though I’ve long had a tenuous relationship with the profession and its values. As I’ve grown up, my understanding of the field has changed with me. These days, I’m curious about understanding media through the lens of care. As a person who wants to take care of themselves and their people well, what do I need to know about engaging with media, politics, technology and society? Here are the topics I’ve been slowly studying.

  • developing a civic heart
  • a.i. and the future of education
  • empathy
  • journalism
  • pluralism
  • navigating media
  • systems thinking
  • progress studies
  • attention management
